How Is Your RCI Points Use Year Determined?

How is my Use Year determined?

Use Year is the annually recurring 12-month period during which you must use your RCI Points.

Points that remain unused at the end of the Use Year are automatically saved for use in the following year, unless they had been previously saved. In other words you have two years to use your points.

Points are made available to the member at the beginning of a Use Year and are valid for one year, then roll over to the following year.

Points do not roll over to the third year.

RCI Points ::Timeshare Rentals

The demand for timeshare rentals is growing and here to stay.

They are handy especially when you need to augment a stay.

They also provide a way for potential buyers to sample the benefits of the resort before they buy.

Buyers can avoid an impulse purchase and buyer's remorse.

And it is an advantage to resorts because rentals bring in potential buyers and rental revenues can offset operating costs.

We hope that the rentals that are seen available on the internet are there because the owners want to rent them out, not that the exchange company is renting out space that should have been available for exchange. This is a hot topic of debate, and the exchange companies have steadfastly insisted that they do not rent out space that is wanted by other exchangers.

The problem is that only the exchange company has the records, so only the exchange company knows the truth, short of a full scale investigation.

Are they any disadvantages to RCI Points?

If you have been reading this blog, you have certainly seen many posts extolling the virtues of RCI Points.

Overall, RCI Points do have considerable advantages compared to the traditional one-week timeshare.

There is one concept that must be understood, however: RCI Points are similar to any floating week in that you must plan ahead and reserve ahead if you want to get into a high demand location and time of year.

For those who cannot plan ahead, a fixed week, fixed unit timeshare has an advantage in that you know that the timeshare is your home for that particular week and that particular unit.

But there is still the disadvantage of knowing you are only going to get that one week out of your annual maintenance fee. With RCI points, the majority of owners manipulate their points where they can get more than one week, such as by using INSTANT EXCHANGE, (45 days or less ahead of travel date), which only takes a small number of points, 9,000 points, to stay in any size unit in any RCI Resort in the world.
